Sustainable development landscape infrastructure, Sittingbourne,

This competition invited strategies to define an environmentally sensitive new neighbourhood in the landscape to the north east of Sittingbourne in Kent. The concept for the project was to shape the broader development within a landscaping framework, within which there would be enough flexibility to enable individual identities for a series of smaller discreet developments.

Existing earth bunds on the site are extended and reinforced to create 'bundways': roads, tracks and paths, and the network of submerged utility services. This new topography creates loosely defined platforms and valleys into which the programme of housing, working and communal facilities are placed in a variety of densities.
