Vesalius Museum, Leuven,
Belgium, 2022–2025
Vesalius is intended to be a new museum about science, care and society. It will focus on both the history of medical research in Leuven as well as with ongoing medical research, bioscience, the future of care and the transformative effects these topics will have on society.
The new museum will be located within an ensemble of historic buildings, formerly part of a teaching hospital which itself evolved from a cluster of monastic buildings. The principal building within the ensemble is the Pathology Institute which will accommodate a range of exhibition, event, teaching and work-spaces.
Our work comprises the transformation of the existing building, rehabilitating the historic fabric, structural interventions and new construction to improve access and circulation and the provision of new technical installations to establish the environmental conditions required for a contemporary museum.
