The project is the conversion and renovation of a closed 19th-century military site into an open, mixed-use urban district integrated into Ghent’s urban fabric. Once an introverted fortress, it now functions as both a connector and a destination for residents and visitors. At its heart, one of the city’s largest paved squares has been reimagined as a neighbourhood park, complemented by a second green garden. Surrounding these shared spaces are housing, public institutions, educational, hospitality and leisure facilities, creating a cohesive urban ensemble that blends living, working and recreation.
