Upper Lawn Pavilion restoration, Tisbury,
UK, 2002-2004

The Solar Pavilion was designed in 1958 by architects Alison and Peter Smithson as their own weekend home and is recognised as an icon of the ‘New Brutalism’ movement. The current owners sought to both restore and upgrade the pavilion to make it more comfortable.

A previous extension adjacent to the building was removed to restore the original open terrace area, into which a large concrete table was cast in-situ. An underfloor heating system was installed on the upper floor of the pavilion and glazing was replaced with high performance single glazing.
