SBa and Charcoalblue win competition for Ancienne Belgique

We’re delighted to announce that Sergison Bates architects, together with Charcoalblue, have won the competition to develop a strategic vision for the future of Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.

Our proposal imagines AB evolving from a concert hall into a House of Music — a vibrant, 24/7 cultural destination where performance, creation and community coexist.

Rather than replacing what makes AB unique, we propose targeted interventions that strengthen its everyday performance while creating a more flexible, resilient and interconnected place for music, collaboration and cultural exchange.

The competition was launched by the Flemish Government through the Team Vlaams Bouwmeester and the Bouwmeester Maître Architecte of the Brussels-Capital Region, calling for a practical and phased spatial strategy addressing sustainability, technical innovation, urban integration, and artistic and audience experience.

With Charcoalblue, Mouton structural engineers and hp MEP engineers.
