The East Flanders Provincial Government Buildings won the RES Award in the Public Award category, following a public vote by more than 4,000 real estate professionals.
The project involved the conversion and renovation of the former military barracks to form a new mixed-use neighbourhood integrated into the city fabric with a large landscaped garden courtyard at its heart. In addition to the East Flanders provincial government headquarters, the project accommodates a broad range of uses: a hotel, the HISK art school, a centre for adult learning and professional development, a community crèche, 80 apartments and 10 family houses, and flexible casco spaces.
