Preliminary drawing in architecture at Kunstmuseum Olten
'Begin again. Fail Better.' Echoing Samuel Beckett's famous quote, the title of the exhibition currently on show at the Olten Art Museum focuses on a medium that is of equal interest to architecture and the fine arts: preliminary drawings which manifest initial thoughts and serve as collectors of ideas for projects.
Spanning five centuries, works from the Drawing Matter collection, the archives of EPFL Lausanne, ETH Zurich and USI-Accademia di architattura Mendrisio include sketches by Erik Gunnar Asplund, Buckminster Fuller, Louis Kahn, Le Corbusier, Adolf Loos, Edwin Lutyens, Peter Märkli, Mies van der Rohe, Oscar Niemeyer, Aldo Rossi, Flora Ruchat-Roncati, Gottfried Semper, Álvaro Siza, Alison & Peter Smithson, Luigi Snozzi, Livio Vacchini, Aldo van Eyck, and architectural practices from all over Switzerland. Among the many distinguished contributions is a facade study of the Seebach residential project in Zurich by Michael Stettler and a sketch by Jonathan Sergison.
