SBa shortlisted for Performing Arts Quarter in Leuven, Belgium

We are delighted to announce that we are one of the three practices shortlisted in the international competition for the development of a new Performing Arts Quarter in Leuven, Belgium, in collaboration with Charcoalblue and eld NV.

A 7400 m² former hospital site, next to the medieval Augustinessen Monastery and Predikheren Church in the mediaeval city centre will be developed by the Leuven City Council, in association with developers Resiterra and the University of Leuven. The  brief calls for proposals that address issues of urban design, architecture and public realm, in order to transform the site into a vibrant art quarter that will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the area and strengthen connections to the city fabric, its heritage and existing cultural network.

The competition is part of the Open Call procedure supported by the Vlaams Bouwmeester to promote architectural quality for projects commissioned by Flemish regional and local authorities.

The winning scheme will be announced in early 2019.
